I wrote an open letter to Jonathan Farro via twitter.
As you may or may not have heard, Jonathan Farro (You know, the brother of the former drummer from that one band that wrote a song for “Twilight: New Moon”) posted this on his twitter in response to the passage of marriage equality in New York. It drew a lot of attention, as tweets from the brother of the former drummer from that one band tend to do. In an attempt to speak rationally and calmly against said tweet, I used my twitter to send him a truly, truly pointless question. He was too busy responding to rage tweets to answer it and initiate what I’m sure would have been a very thoughtful discussion, so I decided to get straight to the point. With the help of TwitLonger, I wrote him the following:
Ok, so since you didn’t respond to my (admittedly pointless) question from before, I’ll just go ahead and give you a multi-tweet piece of my mind. (God knows you need more pieces of more minds.) Know what? I love God. I was raised a Christian, and through the years I have retained much of my faith in Him. You know what else I love? Other men. So, naturally, I was filled with joy to hear of the NY senate vote. I rejoiced in the freedom that the gay citizens of New York had been granted.
Freedom. That was the sole purpose of this vote, and that’s what me and all gay men and women throughout this country deserve. We deserve the freedom to marry who we love, no matter who that is. Because I believe that our love is beautiful and true and sacred. I’m sure there are many people who would disagree with me on this. That’s one of the greatest things about the country we live in; we are granted the freedom to believe in different things, and to live in accordance to the beliefs that we, as individuals, hold true. That is the only freedom I am asking for.
Now, I’ve heard it argued before: “What if someone believes in something horrible? Like murdering babies? Or having sex with animals? What then? WHAT THEN???” To them, I respond with a question: What harm could any loving relationship between two consenting, committed adults bring to any person? How? There is no answer. There is no harm. (Also, animals don’t have anything to do with this.)
So believe whatever you will, but at least grant me this freedom, a freedom that I deserve as much as any American citizen. Don’t force me to live in accordance to your individual belief, a belief that I do not hold to be true.
Oh, and stop telling me what you think God wants for all of us. I hope you can appreciate how obnoxious and infuriating that is.
(P.S.: This will immediately become an open letter. Apologies in advance.)
Is something I do not understand. Yet. I will continue to give it chances.
i know, right? i’m downloading it right now, and i’m gonna give it a try. to be honest, at this point i have so little experience with it that i’m not sure that there’s actually a game of it, just a ton of fan art all of the internet.
Haha, yeah. The download is just a giant fan art gallery. WASTE O’ TIME.
(The game really could be fun once I gain more experience. And also if my computer ever starts running faster. :/)
